E3 2018 – Nintendo Direct Overview

Nintendo came out swinging in their Nintendo Direct for E3. They had many new games to show us as well as new information regarding the now titles Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. From indies to triple-A games, let’s talk about what Nintendo presented to us.

Nintendo opened the presentation up with one of the highest energy game trailers that I have seen so far this E3. Giant robots fighting each other in cities is always a way to get the crowd hyped. Deamon X Machina was shown and it looked quite incredible. The release window is 2019. Next, we got a nice trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Torna the Golden Country. It will add new missions and stories to play. The release window for Torna the Golden Country is September 2018.

We then got a reminder trailer for the Pokemon Let’s Go games with a release the being November 16th, 2018. We then were graced with a surprising trailer for a new Mario Party titled Super Mario Party. It looks like the old Mario Party game that we grew up loving with the added feature of joining two Switch consoles and using them as a fluid screen. Characters can move from screen to screen with no interruptions. Super Mario Party will be released October 5th, 2018.

Nintendo kept things moving along in the fast-paced Direct with Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Stunning visuals as well as great looking battle scenes, this Fire Emblem will be a hit with the fans. Fire Emblem: Three Houses has a release window of Spring 2019. Right before Nintendo moved onto indies, we got a trailer for Fortnite on Switch. It is the same ol Fortnite, but the best part of it was that it is released today! You can play it now by downloading it from the Nintendo eshop.

A few good indies were showcased during Nintendo’s presentation starting with Overcooked 2. Having new features that weren’t in the first game, Overcooked 2 looks to be more of the same with some added mayhem to make playing with friends hilarious or nerve-wracking. Overcooked 2 will be released August 7th, 2018. Up next was a trailer for the wildly popular arcade game, Killer Queen. Killer Queen Black is the same as the arcades just on your Switch! The release window for Killer Queen Black is 2018. Hollow Knight is another indie game that was showcased. The unique looking platformer is released today on the eshop. We then got a release date for the much anticipated Octopath Traveler of July 14th, 2018.

Nintendo then quickly went through some more release date announcements with Starlink releasing October 16th, Dragon Ball FighterZ having a window of Fall, and Mario Tennis Aces releasing June 22nd. All of these titles have a release year of 2018.

Lastly, Nintendo ended the conference on one of the highest notes ever recorded. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This is going to be the biggest Super Smash Bros. in the history of the game. I’m not just saying that. That is not just a saying. Ultimate is actually going to be the largest game in the series. Every character that has ever appeared in a Super Smash Bros. game is playable in Ultimate. And yes, that includes Snake, Pichu, Ice Climbers, Wolf, all versions of Link, and many more. The game looks to play much faster than Super Smash Bros. Brawl and 4. I personally am having a sigh of relief because it’s not a port. There are over fifty assist trophies in the game and as you would have guessed, a ton of stages to play in with both regular and Omega forms. Unfortunately, Waluigi is still an assist trophy. When the presentation seemed all but over, we got one extra announcement. Let me tell you, this is a big one. So big that they couldn’t fit it on the game before. Ridley. Yes, Ridley is finally in the game. Remember when I said that this is the biggest game in the franchise? This game is BIG. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has a release date of December 7th, 2018.

What did you think of the E3 presentations? Did they live up to the hype? What are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments below!
